I am a medical anthropologist with research interests in global mental health, green spaces and health, climate change, sickle cell disease and trait, infant health, energy poverty and thermoregulation. I also have 5 years' experience as a senior public health specialist in the UK specialising in accident prevention for children and older people. I am currently co-lead for the uptake and communications workstream for the SUCCEED Africa project at LSHTM. This is a research consortium attempting a high level of coproduction with people with lived experience to implement community based rehabilitation for people with psychosis in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. I also support the Mental Health Innovation Network at LSHTM. I hold another part time post at the University of Exeter researching community-led adaptations for extreme weather events caused by climate change. I have previously worked on the AMIPS project on medicines pricing policies in sub-Saharan Africa (University of Leeds) and the RESPONSE project (University of Leeds and LSHTM) which was a realist evaluation of maternal mental health and health service responsiveness in Ghana and Vietnam.
I have research experience in the UK, in particular working with ethnic minorities and also in Panama and Guatemala. I have experience with several mixed methods projects and have used qualitative methods of structured and semi-structured interviews, focus groups, telephone interviews, participant observation, literature reviews, photovoice, draw and write, experience-based co-design, surveys, and auto-ethnography. I am also on the Research, Evaluation ad Ethics Commitee for Save the Children (UK), for their research and evaluations conducted in LMICs.
