We are deeply concerned and saddened by the recent escalation of hostilities in Gaza and Israel. We mourn the significant loss of life, as well as the injuries that have been sustained by civilians and armed groups. The repercussions of this conflict are enormous, especially as health services become disrupted and hospitals are unable to cope with the influx of patients.

We join calls for the end of hostilities to prevent the further harm to human life. We call on all parties to respect their legal obligations under International Humanitarian Law. Civilians, healthcare workers and health facilities must be respected and protected at all times. We stand in solidarity for all affected by the conflict and encourage support for first responders. We call for an end to the blockade of Gaza, which has limited access to critical resources, including healthcare, for Palestinians. 

We encourage HHCC members, LSHTM staff and the public to financially support organisations who will respond to the crisis in both settings in the coming days. The Disasters Emergency Committee has outlined existing appeals.
