External support options

Local sexual assault referral centres

Sexual assault referral centres (SARCs) provide free and confidential dedicated care and support for anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted within the past 12 months. They offer a range of services, including crisis care, medical and forensic examinations, emergency contraception and testing for sexually transmitted infections. They can also arrange access to an independent sexual violence advisor, as well as referrals to mental health support and voluntary sector sexual violence support services.

There are three SARCs run by The Havens which cover the whole of London:

  • Camberwell Haven, near to King's College Hospital (south)
  • Whitechapel Haven, near to Royal London Hospital (east)
  • Paddington Haven, near to St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing (west)

They are available to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You don't need to be referred or speak to the police to see them but you must call them first on 020 3299 6900 to make an appointment. If you need to access a SARC outside of London, you can call the NHS 111 non-emergency service to get details of your nearest centre.

Other support services

  • Rape Crisis - support for women and girls who have experienced sexual violence and rape
  • Solace Women's Aid - support for women and girls in London who have experienced sexual and domestic violence
  • Karma Nirvana - support for victims and survivors of forced marriage and honour based abuse
  • Galop - support for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence
  • Survivors UK - support for male and non-binary victims and survivors of sexual violence
